L’Impératrice Syrah 2014

Wines-syrah14

The 2014 L’Impératrice (the Empress) is a Syrah blend consisting of 80% Shiraz and 20% Cabernet.

A complex nose, reflecting the shiraz fruit with dominant liquorice and complex spices. Another favourite at the cellar door, each time we open a bottle the depth of the wine has grown.
Drinking beautifully now, will continue to develop over the next decade.

The label pictures Empress Eugenie, married to Napoleon III. Her grandfather was William Kirkpatrick. William was a wine negotiant and vigneron in Malaga, Spain. This family relationship to the owners of Equus @ Moonambel inspired our premium range of Syrah.

L’Impératrice Syrah 2010

Wines-syrah10

The 2010 L’Impératrice is a Syrah blend consisting of 80% Shiraz and 20% Cabernet grown at the Equus @ Moonambel Vineyard.

Definitely a unique wine as the shiraz and cabernet grapes were picked on the same day and co-fermented. This has produced a velvety smooth, very full-bodied, plummy, spicy wine.
Alcohol is restrained at 13.7% and the tannins are beautifully balanced on the back palate. An elegant wine.

Classico Sangiovese 2012

Wines-classico

The 2012 Classico is 100% Pyrenees Sangiovese.

Rather than harp on about the 2012 Classico ourselves, we thought we’d quote the Mike Bennie review in *Winefront:
“Shows some of the maturity in bottle with figs and dates and prune-ish scents amongst the primary stuff of cherries and twigs and sage …web of suede tannins, and the flavours are dry-ish fruit spectrum with cranberry acidity assisting. Splays and spreads through the mouth, feels good to drink, in the zone for charisma. Nice.” 91 points.  *Equus @ Moonambel is a Winefront subscriber.

The perfect accompaniment for pasta dishes and dressed salads.
